When Is Beekeeping On Your Mind?

According to Google, less people think about beekeeping in October than in any other month. No, this isn’t a public statement that Google went out and made, but if you examine their statistics (see chart below) you’ll see what that’s all about. So when is beekeeping on your mind? Probably not for a few more months if you’re like the rest of the state of Utah and surrounding area.
The fact that October is the slowest month comes as no surprise. This is when the weather typically drops to a temperature that immobilizes the bees, so their productivity decreases sharply, and they just aren’t on our minds anymore. Not surprisingly then, the most popular month for beekeeping searches is the month of May, with almost exactly twice as much interest on the internet for beekeepers.

What does that mean for you? If you want to get some bees, then you should start thinking about beekeeping long before the rush. As soon as the weather warms up, it’s like Black Friday. You don’t want to miss out on getting what bees are available, so start planning ahead. Most smart beekeepers begin doing their shopping in the early months while it is still cold outside.

This is the Google results of beekeeping searches for Utah over the last year.
